Baptism
Through the sacrament of Baptism, we are welcomed into the Body
of Christ.
Baptism is the first sacrament of the Church, allowing an individual admittance to all other sacraments.
If a person is baptized with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the baptism
is recognized as a valid incorporation into the Body of Christ, and the sacrament is not to be repeated.
For infants, the celebration is preceded by a time of instruction for parents and godparents.
For all other persons who have reached the age of reason, a time of catechumenate (or instruction)
precedes the formal welcoming into the Church through baptism.
Except in times of necessity, this sacrament is most appropriately celebrated in a church or home
and by a priest or deacon. In cases of necessity, any person with good intention can baptize a
non-baptized person. Ordinarily, for the baptism of infants, at least one parent must consent
and at least one witness must be present.
All baptismal records are kept by Our Lady of Mercy Pastoral Center and at the
Office of the Presiding Archbishop of the American Catholic Church. You may contact our
Center for copies of the baptized person when you need them for the future,
(i.e., marriage, Holy Orders - men and women in the ACCUS).
As is the case with all sacraments and celebrations, no fee is charged for the celebration
of the sacrament of Baptism within the American Catholic Church.
Ordinarily I receive $280 for a baptism. This stipend or honorarium is inclusive of: pre-sacramental
preparation, all preparations for your ceremony, baptismal candle and white garment,
officiating, and processing the sacramental certificate. These services may vary based on
the needs and desires of the family, or person receiving these sacraments.
Since this is a ministry, and we are discussing the celebration
of a sacrament, no person or family should ever feel that they cannot call me
simply because of the cost. If the offering listed above is beyond your means
please let me know, we’ll work something out. I will never turn you away because
you cannot afford the 'customary' offering.
What is most important to me is that you have God’s blessing at
your celebration for your child (children), and that you feel His love in your hearts and
grow in holiness of life.
May God richly bless you today and always,
Fr. Frank, Pastor
